State bank of Pakistan’s e-learning financial literacy game ‘PomPak – Learn to Earn’ has successfully completed one year. Launched on 25th March, 2020 under State Bank’s National Financial Literacy Program for Youth, PomPak gained public acceptance very quickly, and became one of the most admired educational games in the country in a very short period of time. In just one year, PomPak’s android and iOS mobile applications exceeded 137K downloads collectively, and this number is increasing with every passing day. The game consistently scored the top spot in the ‘educational games’ category in the Google Play Store in Pakistan.
Available in both English and Urdu, PomPak – Learn to Earn targets three age-groups: children (9-12); adolescents (13-17); and youth (18-29). With 53 distinct modules, the story-based format of the game helps the users to understand and apply fundamentals of financial literacy in their daily lives. PomPak’s entrepreneurial storyline keeps the users engaged while effectively inculcating several financial and business skills such as budgeting, saving, banking, branding and borrowing. Users who complete all the modules of the game are awarded a free digital certificate of financial literacy. To bridge the education and technological gap, an offline version of PomPak – Learn to Earn has also been developed, which can be used in different educational institutes all across the country where high-speed internet is not available.
State Bank of Pakistan in collaboration with National Institute of Banking & Finance (NIBAF) is implementing National Financial Literacy Program for Youth (NFLP-Y) with an aim to impart free of cost financial literacy education to Pakistani youth. In the last three years, the project has successfully reached more than 40 districts of Pakistan making over 700 thousands financial literate in this category.
‘POMPAK – Learn to Earn’ is free, and can be played on the PC or can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
